THE STORY

A vampire dog’s undying devotion leads him on a thrilling quest through the vibrant nightlife of New Orleans to reunite with his missing owner. It’s a cozy mystery with a supernatural bent, written for adults. It’s for anyone who wishes dogs could live forever and would like to slip into a world where benevolent dog vampires are possible.

THE AUTHOR

Suzy Jackson

Sometimes it feels like this novel is a mash up of my favorite things — dogs, New Orleans, and fantastical fiction. I’m happy you’re here reading about it! I’m author Suzy Jackson and this is my debut novel. I’ve written lots of short stories, essays and you can find those things on my blog here. I pay the bills as a marketing creative director and I reside in Chicago.

The inspiration for Chulie the Vampdog came when I was living in New Orleans for a short time during the pandemic, with my dog Mia and my husband Tom. While we were there, a crew happened to be filming the AMC series Interview with the Vampire based on the Anne Rice classic. It was all around us in the Quarter. Well things muddled up in my imagination and I thought about what it might be like for a dog who was immortal. I’ve lost dogs in the past and understand that dreadful sort of grief. Chulie is my antidote for that pain. I am busy at work on the first draft of the next novel in the Immortails Series. Stay tuned to see where Chulie’s adventures go next.

Entertaining, creative take on vampire lore

Suzy Jackson’s Chulie the Vampdog novel about an undead dog’s desperate search for his missing owner provides a delightful blend of suspense, humor, and paranormal intrigue. Set in contemporary New Orleans, the book takes readers on a thrilling yet enticing adventure involving vampires, dogs, and humans while showcasing the vibrant, bohemian atmosphere of this beautiful city. Readers seeking fresh, creative interpretation of vampire lore and those of us, like myself, who also love stories about animals should find Jackson’s novel an engaging next read.

I was on such a fun adventure reading Chulie the Vampdog! The story is fast-paced and engaging with mystery, humor and emotion. It also explores friendship, loyalty and acceptance, making it more than just a supernatural tale.
I look forward to reading the next book in the Immortails series!

A magical mystery

What a fun and magical story. A lot of New Orleans, a lot of mystery, a lot of vampy stuff, a lot from a lovable, yet a bit cranky dog. Well-written and full of life.
